Toxicity
Ethametsulfuron-methyl has low acute oral and inhalational toxicity in the rat (LD50 >5000 mg/kg bw with no deaths, LC50 >5700 mg/m3 with no deaths), low dermal toxicity in the rabbit (LD50 >2000 mg/kg bw with no deaths), is not a skin irritant in the rabbit on either intact or abraded skin, or a skin sensitiser in the guinea pig but is a moderate eye irritant in the rabbit. In studies designed to determine the approximate lethal dose in male rats and rabbits no animal died at doses up to 11000 and 5000 mg/kg bw respectively and clinical signs were limited to slight weight loss and, in the rat, wet perineum.
Applications
It is sulfonyl urea herbicide mainly used for the control of broad-leave weeds and sedge.
