Hexythiazox is one of thiazolidinone acaricides with an appearance of yellow or light brown liquid and wettable powder appearance of white powder, stored under cool and dry conditions two years without deterioration. Ambient temperature level does not affect the results, generally 10 days after the application in order to show better control effect, the persistence can maintain 50 days or so. It is an acaricide for Eotetranychus carpini on alfalfa and clover seeds (24c), caneberries, Christmas trees, citrus and vines (field grown, nursery), cotton, hops, ornamentals, peppermint and spearmint, pistachios, pome fruit (apples, pears), stone fruit (including plums), strawberries, tree fruits and nuts (nonbearing).
Fenpropathrin is pyrethroid insecticides and acaricide with contact and stomach action, acting on Lepidoptera, Diptera and Heteroptera insect. It is used to control aphid, red spider, heart_eating worm, armworm, and noctuid.
This combination provides dual pest control against mites and insect pests, offering both preventive and knockdown action. Below is a comprehensive application guide.
Chemical Class: Thiazolidinone (IRAC Group 10A)
Mode of Action: Chitin synthesis inhibitor (affects egg & larval development)
Target Pests:
Spider mite eggs & larvae (Tetranychus spp., Panonychus ulmi)
Long residual activity (21-30 days)
Weak against adult mites
Chemical Class: Pyrethroid (IRAC Group 3A)
Mode of Action: Sodium channel modulator (nerve toxin)
Target Pests:
Adult spider mites (suppression)
Whiteflies, thrips, aphids
Lepidopteran pests (secondary control)
Best for:
Early-season mite prevention (Hexythiazox)
Knockdown of mites and secondary pests (Fenpropathrin)
Resistance management (two different modes of action)
Fruits: Citrus, apples, grapes, strawberries
Vegetables: Tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers
Field Crops: Cotton, soybeans
Ornamentals: Roses, nursery plants
(Always verify crop safety on product labels)
Formulation | Rate per Hectare | Water Volume |
---|---|---|
Hexythiazox 10% EC | 300-500 mL | 500-1000 L |
Fenpropathrin 10% EC | 300-500 mL | 500-1000 L |
Premix Example (Hexythiazox 5% + Fenpropathrin 5% EC) | 800-1200 mL | 500-1000 L |
Apply at first sign of mite presence (before webbing appears)
Hexythiazox: Best applied preventively (early in season)
Fenpropathrin: Provides quick knockdown of active infestations
Reapply every 14-21 days if needed (max 2-3 applications/season)
Use high-pressure sprayer (≥300 psi) for good coverage
Ensure underside leaf application (critical for mite control)
Add sticker/spreader for better retention
Avoid spraying during peak sunlight hours
Broad-spectrum control (mites + secondary insect pests)
Long residual activity (Hexythiazox protects for weeks)
Resistance management (two distinct modes of action)
Phytotoxicity Risk:
Fenpropathrin may cause leaf burn at high temps (>30°C)
Test on small area before full application
Bee Toxicity:
Fenpropathrin is highly toxic to bees - apply at dusk/dawn
Pre-Harvest Intervals (PHI):
Hexythiazox: 7-14 days (vegetables), 21-30 days (fruits)
Fenpropathrin: 3-7 days (vegetables), 14-21 days (fruits)
Resistance Risk:
Rotate with non-pyrethroid miticides (e.g., etoxazole, spirodiclofen)
Standalone Products:
Hexythiazox 10% EC (e.g., Savey)
Fenpropathrin 10% EC (e.g., Danitol)
Premix Example:
Hexythiazox 5% + Fenpropathrin 5% EC
Dose: 1.0-1.5 L/ha
REI: 24 hours
Rotate with miticides from different IRAC groups:
Group 20B (e.g., Cyenopyrafen)
Group 23 (e.g., Spiromesifen)
Group 25 (e.g., Bifenazate)
Rainfastness: Hexythiazox (2-4 hours), Fenpropathrin (6-8 hours)
Tank Mixing: Avoid alkaline products (may degrade Fenpropathrin)
Storage: Keep in cool, dry place away from sunlight
For optimal results, combine with proper cultural practices like:
Regular field monitoring
Removal of heavily infested plant parts
Maintaining proper irrigation to reduce plant stress
