Triazophos is a broad spectruminsecticide and acaricide with some nematicidal properties. It controls Aphididae in cereals at 320-600 g AI (20% EC)/ha, in fruit at 75-125 g/100l. When incorporated at 1-2 kg AI (20% EC)/ha in the soil prior to planting, it controls Agrotis spp. and other cutworms. It can penetrate plant tissue, but has no systemic activity.
The pesticide mixture of Triazophos + Petroleum Oil combines a broad-spectrum organophosphate insecticide with a physical-action suffocant and disruptor, enhancing efficacy against multiple pest stages (eggs, larvae, adults). This mixture is commonly used in agriculture for its knockdown and residual effects.
This combination is effective against:
Sucking pests (aphids, whiteflies, leafhoppers, mealybugs)
Lepidopteran larvae (bollworms, stem borers, fruit borers)
Mites & scales (Petroleum oil smothers soft-bodied pests)
Eggs and nymphs (Oil disrupts respiration and penetrates egg masses)
Triazophos (Organophosphate) → Inhibits acetylcholinesterase (AChE), causing nervous system failure.
Petroleum Oil → Blocks spiracles (suffocation), disrupts cell membranes, and enhances Triazophos penetration.
Synergistic effect → Immediate kill (oil) + systemic residual control (Triazophos).
Fruits (Citrus, mango, apple, grapes) - for scales & borers.
Vegetables (Tomato, brinjal, cabbage) - against caterpillars & aphids.
Field crops (Cotton, rice, sugarcane) - for stem borers & bollworms.
Tea & coffee - to control mites and sucking pests.
Foliar spray: 1.5-2 mL Triazophos (40% EC) + 5-10 mL Petroleum Oil (99%) per liter of water.
Timing: Early morning/late evening (avoid high temps to prevent phytotoxicity).
Frequency: 1-2 sprays per season (resistance management needed).
Broad-spectrum (kills insects, mites, and eggs).
Petroleum oil improves adhesion & penetration of Triazophos.
Cost-effective for smallholder farmers.
Reduces pest resurgence by targeting multiple life stages.
Highly toxic to bees, fish, and beneficial insects → Avoid spraying near water or during pollination.
PHI (Pre-Harvest Interval): 15-20 days (Triazophos is highly toxic; check local regulations).
Phytotoxicity risk: Test on a few leaves before full application (some crops sensitive to oil).
Use full PPE (gloves, mask, goggles) - Triazophos is a WHO Class Ib (Highly Hazardous) pesticide.
Triazophos + Petroleum Oil is a potent but high-risk mixture, best used in resistant pest outbreaks (e.g., stem borers in rice, scales in citrus). Due to Triazophos' toxicity, many countries restrict its use-always check local regulations.
