Propargite can effectively prevent and cure acarid genus of apple tree, cotton, cucumber, grape, corn, nut, soybean, drupe, tomato etc. Non-systemic acaricide with predominantly contact action; some additional action by inhalation. Uses Control of phytophagous mites (particularly motile stages) on a variety of crops, including vines, fruit trees (e.g. top fruit, stone fruit, citrus fruit), hops, nuts, tomatoes, vegetables, ornamentals, cotton, maize, peanuts, and sorghum. Used at rates from 0.75-1.8 kg/ha on row crops and foliar sprays of 0.85-3.0 kg/ha on perennial fruit and nut crops. Phytotoxicity Phytotoxic to pears, strawberries, roses, and cotton under 10 inches in height. Citrus fruit and beans may also show some injury.
The mixture of Propargite + Petroleum Oil is commonly used in agriculture as an acaricide (mite control) and insecticide, often with added benefits from the petroleum oil's physical mode of action. Below are the key details about its application:
Propargite:
Primarily effective against spider mites (e.g., Tetranychus urticae, Panonychus ulmi).
Also has some activity against rust mites and false spider mites.
Petroleum Oil:
Controls soft-bodied insects (aphids, scales, whiteflies) and mite eggs by suffocation.
Disrupts pest cell membranes and interferes with respiration.
Fruit Trees: Apples, pears, citrus, grapes.
Vegetables: Tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants.
Ornamentals: Roses, greenhouse plants.
Nuts: Almonds, walnuts.
(Note: Always check label restrictions for specific crops.)
Dosage: Follow manufacturer recommendations (e.g., 1-3 L/ha for petroleum oil, 0.5-1.5 L/ha for Propargite 40% EC).
Timing:
Apply during cooler hours (early morning/late evening) to avoid phytotoxicity.
Best at mite crawler stage (before heavy webbing).
Mixing:
Ensure proper agitation to maintain emulsion stability.
Test compatibility if mixing with other pesticides (e.g., sulfur can cause phytotoxicity with oils).
Coverage: Thorough spray coverage (undersides of leaves) is critical.
Synergistic Effect: Petroleum oil improves Propargite's penetration into mite eggs/webbing.
Resistance Management: Reduces risk of mite resistance vs. standalone Propargite.
Dual Action: Kills adults (Propargite) + eggs/nymphs (oil).
Phytotoxicity Risk:
Petroleum oil can damage plants under high temps (>32°C) or drought stress.
Avoid application during bloom (may harm pollinators).
Residue Intervals: Observe pre-harvest intervals (PHI) for Propargite (e.g., 14-30 days in citrus).
Bee Safety: Apply in evening when bees are inactive.
