Hexythiazox is one of thiazolidinone acaricides with an appearance of yellow or light brown liquid and wettable powder appearance of white powder, stored under cool and dry conditions two years without deterioration. Ambient temperature level does not affect the results, generally 10 days after the application in order to show better control effect, the persistence can maintain 50 days or so. It is an acaricide for Eotetranychus carpini on alfalfa and clover seeds (24c), caneberries, Christmas trees, citrus and vines (field grown, nursery), cotton, hops, ornamentals, peppermint and spearmint, pistachios, pome fruit (apples, pears), stone fruit (including plums), strawberries, tree fruits and nuts (nonbearing).
Abamectin is the new type of anti-acarid antibiotic, which is distilled after microbial ferment, B1a is the most active content of it and has a very good effect on anti-acarid and other pests, so it has the feature of "broad-spectrum, high efficient, low hangover and easy use". So it is the ideal biological agricultural chemical to current anti-pest. Avm to kill pest through eat (mastication insects and stick & suck insects) and touch (avm can enter into body through insects' stoma and claw), it blocks the nerval conduct system of insects to paralysis and dyed, avm can be decomposed by light and microbe, and can be absorbed into the body of plant by its roots, so it is safe to the environment.
This combination provides dual-action control against mites (including eggs and motile stages) and certain insect pests. Below is a detailed application guide.
Chemical Class: Thiazolidinone (IRAC Group 10A)
Mode of Action: Chitin synthesis inhibitor (affects egg & larval development)
Target Pests:
Spider mite eggs & larvae (Tetranychus spp., Panonychus ulmi)
Long residual activity (up to 21-30 days)
Weak against adult mites
Chemical Class: Avermectin (IRAC Group 6)
Mode of Action: GABA agonist (nerve toxin)
Target Pests:
Motile mite stages (nymphs & adults)
Leafminers (Liriomyza spp.)
Thrips (suppression)
Best for:
Early-season mite prevention (Hexythiazox controls eggs)
Knockdown of active infestations (Abamectin kills nymphs/adults)
Resistance management (two different modes of action)
Fruits: Apples, grapes, citrus, strawberries
Vegetables: Tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, eggplants
Field Crops: Cotton, soybeans
Ornamentals: Roses, greenhouse plants
(Check label restrictions-some crops may have PHI limitations.)
Formulation | Rate per Hectare | Water Volume |
---|---|---|
Hexythiazox 10% EC | 300-500 mL | 500-1000 L |
Abamectin 1.8% EC | 300-500 mL | 500-1000 L |
Premix (e.g., Hexythiazox 5% + Abamectin 0.5% SC) | 800-1200 mL | 500-1000 L |
Best applied at first mite detection (before heavy webbing).
Hexythiazox works preventively (apply early in mite lifecycle).
Abamectin works curatively (use when nymphs/adults are present).
Reapplication: Every 10-14 days (max 2-3 applications/season).
High-pressure sprayer (ensure full canopy penetration).
Thorough underside leaf coverage (critical for contact miticides).
Add a surfactant (silicone or non-ionic) for better adhesion.
Complete life-stage control (Hexythiazox for eggs, Abamectin for nymphs/adults).
Long residual effect (Hexythiazox protects for weeks).
Resistance management (different IRAC groups).
Phytotoxicity Risk:
Abamectin can harm sensitive crops (e.g., young cucumbers).
Avoid spraying under high temperatures (>30°C).
Bee Toxicity:
Abamectin is highly toxic to bees - apply at dusk/dawn.
Pre-Harvest Interval (PHI):
Hexythiazox: 7-14 days (leafy crops), 21-30 days (fruits).
Abamectin: 3-7 days (vegetables), 14-21 days (fruits).
Resistance Risk:
Rotate with non-Group 6 & 10 miticides (e.g., fenpyroximate, spirodiclofen).
Standalone Mix:
Hexythiazox 10% EC + Abamectin 1.8% EC
Premix Example:
Hexythiazox 5% + Abamectin 0.5% SC
Dose: 1.0-1.5 L/ha
REI (Re-Entry Interval): 12-24 hours
Rotate with miticides from different IRAC groups:
Group 20B (e.g., Cyenopyrafen - mitochondrial disruptor)
Group 23 (e.g., Spiromesifen - lipid synthesis inhibitor)
Group 25 (e.g., Bifenazate - neural toxin)
